Overview

Paradise Wars is undergoing initial design and team resourcing. Development is expected to start in Q1 of 2022, with a closed beta launch to be expected in Q4 2022.

Paradise Wars is a deck-building auto battler/auto chess game that is focused on player engagement and player progression. Paradise Wars aims to capture all of the appeals of an auto battler, while leaning into strategic elements from board games and trading card games to apply extra layers of strategy.

Art Direction

Paradise Wars will have a 2.5D top-down/high-angle view of the game board. Units and Generals will resemble Tames from Untamed Isles, which are creatures that players catch and battle within that game. However, the art style will be a more cartoon-animated style to give the game a playful and friendly tone.

Combat

Paradise Wars is primarily an auto battler. Matches consist of ten players, creating a team composed of units. Each match is split into roughly 30 stages, each stage has a planning and combat phase.

The planning phase is where players can use cards and position their units. In the combat phase, players’ teams fight in 1-versus-1 army conflicts until only one team remains.

When a player loses, they take damage. Once their health reaches 0, they are eliminated from the game and the game continues until only one player remains.

Game modes

If players have a valid deck of 50 cards and a General they can select a mode from the game mode interface.

Casual

At the start of the planning phase, players automatically have all their units respawn, and they draw a card. If it is the first planning phase, the player will receive 3 cards instead.

This phase is where players can determine team composition, place units, and use cards. Players can only do these things while the planning phase is active.

Once the planning phase ends, the combat phase begins.

When the combat phase begins, the server will match each player against another in a series of 1-versus-1 battles. Players have no influence on the outcome of these battles once the phase starts. A 1-versus-1 battle is won when a team is eliminated, and the winning General deals damage to the losing General.

After all battles have finished, the next planning phase begins

Teams

Teams match is the same format as a casual match with the difference being players are in groups of two, so the board size and overall mechanics are scaled up to keep gameplay more consistent. Team matches consist of 20 players resulting in 10 teams.

To encourage teamwork, players share half of the mechanics, e.g. board space and health.

Each team’s shared health pool starts at the combined total maximum health from the Generals in that team. When a team wins a combat phase both Generals attack.

Each team of two has a larger battlefield and two command posts.

Players still have their own decks and individual hands. However, as a team, they share their board and bench with their team member.

Conquest

The conquest game mode is designed for play-to-earn players.

The rewards from this game mode are paradise shards: the currency used for purchasing items from the store like booster packs and cosmetics.

Conquest is a longer-style game mode consisting of multiple casual matches over land tiles on a larger map.

The short conquest mode is designed for lobbies of 20 people, consisting of a smaller island size and fewer rounds, while the long conquest mode has over 80 players, a larger island size, and more rounds.

Ranked

To facilitate competitive play, the ranked game mode uses an ELO / MMR system. These matches will be the exact same as the casual team and solo game modes. However, players will be matched against others with similar matchmaking scores.

Players will receive paradise shards, booster packs, and limited-edition cosmetics depending on their rank at the end of each season.

Land

The overall map of Paradise Wars is a large collection of islands.

These islands consist of hex tiles. Individual islands are used as maps for the conquest game mode. There are two sizes of islands designed for each of the conquest game modes.

Land can be obtained in three ways:

  • Through purchase during our land sale.
  • Through in-game rewards.
  • From others using the marketplace.
